I thought I would start a topic for discussion and recommendation of sexy movies that are NOT porn. You know, ones with a storyline and stuff. Ive found the website IMDb dot com to be a good place to get info on movies, directors actors, reviews etc. This site has trailers, but you can always use YouTube to get trailers as well. I'll start. ________________________________ Shortbus (2006)Director and Writer: John Cameron MitchellActors: Sook-Yin Lee, Peter Stickles, PJ DeBoy... Storyline: "Numerous New York City dwellers come to the exclusive club Shortbus to work out problems in their sexual relationships. Rob and Sophia are a happily married couple, except for the fact that she has never experienced sexual climax. This irony follows her to work because she is a couples counselor who frequently has to deal with the sexual issues other couples have. Two of her patients are Jamie and James, a gay couple who have been monogamous for five years and counting. James wants to bring other men in to the relationship, and his own history with depression may hint at an ulterior motive. Ceth (pronounced Seth) may be the perfect addition to their family, but Caleb, a voyeur from across the street, may have his own ideas about that. Sophia visits Severin, a dominatrix with secrets of her own to reveal." From IMDb. This movie starts off with a guy self fellating to climax- must have done a lot of yoga to accomplish that, and if you can get into, or get past, the MM sex scenes, it is an attempt to give insight into human nature and sexuality with the use of uncensored sex in modern cinema. I personally didn't go for it's happy ending- to excuse the pun, but the journey was certainly worthwhile, as is the directors niche to bring sexuality into the mainstream. Sex and Lucia (2001)Director and Writer: Julio MedemActors: Paz Vega, Tristan Ulloa, Daniel Freire, Elena Enaya... Storyline: "Lucía is a young waitress in a restaurant in the centre of Madrid. After the loss of her long-time boyfriend, a writer, she seeks refuge on a quiet, secluded Mediterranean island. There, bathed in an atmosphere of fresh air and dazzling sun, Lucía begins to discover the dark corners of her past relationship, as if they were forbidden passages of a novel which the author now, from afar, allows her to read." From IMDb. This Spanish (subtitled) movie is beautifully woven, and artistically and atmospherically executed. It rates highly in my Top 10 movies, not just for its sexiness. It made me laugh, made me cry, made my zipper buckle. The sex and nudity is explicit, but leaves the magnifying glass on the bedside table, which adds to the movie's artistic class. Mulholland Drive (2001)Director and Writer: David LynchActors: Naomi Watts, Laura Harring, Justin Theroux... Storyline: "A bright-eyed young actress travels to Hollywood, only to be ensnared in a dark conspiracy involving a woman who was nearly murdered, and now has amnesia because of a car crash. Eventually, both women are pulled into a psychotic illusion involving a dangerous blue box, a director named Adam Kesher, and the mysterious night club Silencio". From IMDb. If you have never taken drugs and never want to, be warned, David Lynch will give your mind a tweaking that you may just not recover from. This movie, from the co-creator of Twin Peaks (this point in itself should tell you a lot), is woven in a non-linear cut and paste style of storytelling, in a similar way to Pulp Fiction. However, David Lynch ups the ante x2 by interweaving a fantasy version of 'reality' with a real version of 'reality'. That makes for a lot of cross referencing, but the power of this movie is jaw dropping. Who has seen the FF scene between the 2 main characters and not been rocked by its build up? The scene at the Club Silencio when Rebecca Del Rio sings a Spanish version of Roy Orbison's "Crying" still has me absolutely floored viewing it years later. If you watch this movie and need to seriously debrief, I am here for you :-) Love to hear your views on these movies, or others you recommend.
